FAQs on the flu vaccine

Here’s everything you need to know about getting the flu vaccine for your child.

You have questions, we have answers!

Do I need to be part of the practice to receive a flu vaccine?

Yes. Our practice takes pride in the continued care of your child. For that reason we require patients to be established at our practice to schedule a flu vaccine appointment. We always welcome new families looking to join our practice. Please get in touch with our office to find out more information on how to transfer over care.

I have an upcoming well-visit appointment. Do I need a separate appointment for my child to get the flu vaccine?

No, a separate appointment is not needed. You may ask your pediatrician during your visit, and we can add it on.

What do I do if my child is sick on the day of our flu vaccine appointment?

Please contact our office at the earliest opportunity. The child should be symptom-free to receive the vaccine. Your appointment may be changed to a sick visit with the next available Provider. Availability may vary, so please call before heading to the office.

Can I see a doctor during my flu vaccine appointment?

Flu vaccine appointments are scheduled with a nurse. If you need to see a doctor, a separate appointment is needed, subject to the schedule availability. Please contact our office should you need assistance with this.

Will my insurance cover the flu vaccine for my child?

The vaccine alone is covered for children under the Connecticut Vaccine Program, ages 6 months to 18 years old. Most insurances cover the vaccine administration portion. Although we do not anticipate any cost-sharing (copay/deductible) for this specific service, not all insurance policies are the same. Please check your insurance coverage before your visit.
